After You Apply

When an application is received to a posting on our applicant portal, the following steps take place in the recruitment process:

  • All applications are reviewed by a member of the HR recruitment team to determine that their work experience and education meets the minimum qualifications as stated in the posting.
  • Qualified applicants are transitioned to the search committee for review.
  • Upon the search committee’s review, Human Resources receives notification to schedule interviews with the selected candidates.
  • Once the interview process is complete, NYSTRS will perform at least three reference checks for the final candidate(s).
  • After the reference checks are complete, a conditional offer of employment will be extended.
  • Once the conditional offer is accepted, a background check will be conducted.
  • A formal offer is extended to the selected candidate once the background check is received and approved.
  • Upon the acceptance of a formal offer, the onboarding process will occur in preparation for their employment with NYSTRS.
  • Prior to their start date, new hires will be provided with all the information and resources necessary to accomplish a thorough, informative and enjoyable onboarding experience on their first day.
