Mr. Keefe is the retired teacher representative on the Board, elected to his position by NYSTRS retirees. He has served as Board president since 2016. Prior to that, Mr. Keefe served as vice president. He chairs the Executive Committee and serves on the Disability Review and Investment committees.
Mr. Keefe spent more than three decades teaching in the Hempstead Public Schools before retiring in 2004. For most of his career, he was president of the Hempstead Classroom Teachers' Association, and also served on numerous other education and community-related committees. An active member of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), he earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Long Island University.
