The Your Source newsletter for active members has a new look and is now available online. This first all-digital edition is more concise (only four pages) and is easily printed.
As a reminder, the newsletter will no longer be mailed to members. If you have a MyNYSTRS account and elected to receive notifications, we’ll email you each time a new edition is posted on NYSTRS.org. Add yourself to the distribution list by logging in to your MyNYSTRS account, selecting Manage Account > E-Subscriptions and check the “Yes!” box.
In the September issue, new members will definitely want to read “What You Need to Know If You’re New to Teaching.” Included within is information on claiming and purchasing prior service credit that can be added to your NYSTRS membership once you have earned two years of credit with us.
Other articles examine the slimmed-down version of the Benefit Profile, the annual statement of your NYSTRS benefits; the upcoming Annual Delegates Meeting, where delegates will elect a teacher member to the NYSTRS Board; the need to prepare for retirement at each stage of your career; and, a new study that shows how public pensions aid the economy.
