A tiger lounging on the beach, a robin with its nest, and a vendor at a baseball game were among the images contained in unique graphic recordings used to capture key points from informational sessions at this year’s Annual Meeting of NYSTRS Delegates. The Nov. 4-5 meeting in Saratoga was attended by almost 700 educators from around the state.
In an effort to help attendees retain information shared during conference workshops, a graphic artist combined words and images to visually summarize the presentations on oversized cardboard canvasses. Photos of these recordings are accessible from the Delegates page of this website.
For those who prefer more detail, the PowerPoint presentations from each workshop are also available online. Both the PowerPoints and the graphics are found under the 2018 Delegates Meeting tab on the Annual Delegates Meeting page.
Workshops included presentations on MyNYSTRS; disability, divorce and death benefits; NYSTRS general knowledge; NYSTRS services offered on site at your local district; retirement security tips; Social Security benefits; and rules about working in retirement.
The meeting closed with the election of a teacher to the 10-member Retirement System Board. Ron Gross, president of William Floyd United Teachers and a social studies teacher for 30 years, was unanimously re-elected to a new three-year term on the NYSTRS Board. Other active teachers on the Board are Sheila Sullivan Buck of Rush-Henrietta and Paul J. Farfaglia of Jordan-Elbridge. Board President David P. Keefe is the retired teacher representative.
