Employer Contribution Rate

The required employer contribution rate (ECR) is determined annually through an actuarial valuation of NYSTRS' assets and liabilities. At its July 2009 meeting, the Retirement Board formally adopted an ECR of 6.19%. This rate will be applied to the 2009-10 member payroll and will be collected during the fall of 2010. Refer to Administrative Bulletin 2009-5 for additional information.

The estimated ECR applicable to 2010-11 member salaries will be between 8.5% and 9.0%. Employers were notified of this estimated ECR in November 2009 with Administrative Bulletin 2009-9. In February another Administrative Bulletin will be issued with a more precise estimate of this ECR.

In December 2008 NYSTRS hosted a webinar for school administrators covering the topics of System funding and the ECR. We encourage you to review the questions and answers from the webinar.
