NYSTRS administers a defined benefit plan established by the New York State Legislature.
Periodically, the Legislature enacts new laws that impact NYSTRS and/or the state’s other public retirement systems. NYSTRS administers the laws as enacted; the Retirement System has neither the ability to change the benefit structure nor the authority to mandate benefit changes.
